Privacy policy

Draft: have a lawyer review before launch.

This policy explains what Balcony Solar Savings collects and why. In short: we collect very little, we never sell or share personal information, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

What we collect

If you join the waitlist: your email address and ZIP code (required); optionally your utility, whether you rent or own, and what kind of kit interests you; your consent to receive emails; the date you signed up and confirmed; and, if you arrived from a campaign link, its source and campaign name.

When you click "Check price": we count the click (which kit, which page and any campaign source). We don't store your IP address or anything else that identifies you with that count.

When you visit: we use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and a few actions: finishing a savings estimate, clicking through to a seller, and joining or confirming the waitlist. It doesn't use cookies. Vercel identifies visitors by a hash of the request, discards it after 24 hours, and records details such as the page address, referrer, approximate location, browser and device type.[source] We remove the codes from waitlist confirmation and unsubscribe links before anything is sent. We don't use advertising trackers. If we ever add a tool that uses cookies, we'll ask for your consent first.

Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs, which include IP addresses, under its own policies. To limit abuse of the waitlist form, our servers briefly use a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address in memory to count sign-up attempts; it is never stored.

Why we use it

Only to email you about California plug-in solar and when kits that meet the state's rules become available, and to understand which pages and kits are useful. Our email provider (Resend) sends the emails, and our database provider (Supabase) stores the waitlist.

What we never do

We do not sell or share your personal information. We may share only aggregated, anonymous counts (for example "1,000 people signed up in San Diego") with brands. Because we don't sell or share personal information, we don't offer a "Do Not Sell or Share" link; if that ever changes, we'll add one first.

How long we keep it

  • Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
  • Confirmed sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, and deleted 12 months after you last engaged with our emails.
  • Click counts contain no personal information.

Your choices and rights

Every email has a link to unsubscribe or delete your data instantly. You can also email hello@example.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We'll respond within 45 days, the timeline California law sets for businesses that are covered by the CCPA.[source] We honor these requests for everyone, whether or not that law applies to a site our size.

Our emails include our mailing address and an unsubscribe link, and we honor unsubscribe requests promptly, as the CAN-SPAM Act requires.[source] Mailing address: [Mailing address: to be added before launch].

Children

This site is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes
